ROOM TO GROW
After years in a townhouse with barely a patch of yard, this young family found a house with room to spread out, in the neighborhood they had always loved. It needed work, but they saw its potential right away: space for the kids to run, a garden of their own, and rooms that could finally fit the way they live.
These clients came in with a beautiful, clear point of view and an eye for warm, timeless materials. The big ideas were theirs from the start: expanding the kitchen and primary bath into a two-story addition, trading the laundry closet for a coffee bar, and a real fireplace for cozy evenings after years with an electric one. Architectural drawings for the addition were prepared by Nimble Design, and the clients' cabinet shop produced the cabinetry drawings.
They brought me in as a second set of eyes for the decisions that are hard to undo. I designed the primary bath layout and the primary suite, guided the design of the fireplace room and coffee bar, and consulted throughout the house on flooring direction, select lighting and the kitchen.
The project is underway, so I'm sharing it as it unfolds. The full reveal will be added once it's photographed.
01 · THE WHOLE HOUSE
ONE HOUSE, ONE PALETTE
An enclosed balcony became a two-story addition: more room for the primary bath upstairs and a larger kitchen below. The main floor had five different floorings, and now one continuous light oak-look luxury vinyl plank runs through it, warm underfoot and made for kids, pets and real life. Every room is getting a color-drenched limewash finish on the walls, ceilings and trim, so the whole house reads as one soft, continuous palette. Plans are cropped to the area of work for client privacy.

THE PRIMARY BATH
The clients knew they wanted a bigger primary bath, and enclosing the old balcony gave it room to grow. I explored five layouts before we landed on the one that fits how they start and end their days: a freestanding tub in the new addition, a separate shower and toilet room, and a walnut floating double vanity. The renderings show the design direction. Finishes and fixtures are still being refined as the project comes together.

THE PRIMARY BEDROOM
Blue walls and a ceiling fan gave way to limewash on the walls and ceiling, new lighting and linen pinch-pleat drapery across the bay window. Same window, a different room. Furnishing and styling are still to come.

THE FIREPLACE ROOM & COFFEE BAR
The clients knew exactly what they wanted here: a coffee and wet bar where the laundry closet used to be, and a real fireplace for cozy evenings after years with an electric one. The dark brick is being softened with a medium greige finish (the samples beside it tell the story), a new arch frames the coffee bar, and walnut cabinetry, honed stone and handmade-look tile bring warmth up close. Cabinetry drawings by the clients' cabinet shop; the rendering shows the design direction.

THE KITCHEN & DETAILS
The clients led the kitchen, working with their own cabinet shop, and expanded it into the new addition. I consulted on flooring direction, select lighting and the finishes that tie the main floor together, so every room reads as part of one house.

DINING & LIVING
With the limewash and new floors going in, these rooms are next. I'll be furnishing the dining and living rooms, and the reveal will be added here once they're photographed.
